Menu Binding Methods
by PWalters
If you are in the process of opening up your own restaurant, deciding on the type of menu binding is probably not at the top of your list of things to do. There are so many important things that require your attention, such as hiring a staff and choosing furniture; selecting a method of menu binding might not seem very important. You could just go with the first menu cover you come across and not give any thought to the binding on it.
But, before you would make that quick decision, really give some thought to the binding on the covers. The choice you make could be the difference between receiving covers that are totally not suitable and will have to be replaced and receiving covers that are serviceable and will last a long time. There are advantages to each method, but just for the right situations.
The kind of menu covers that are the most durable are case bound covers. The pages are held together by bookcloth material, which is similiar to the style that manufacturers of books use in the hardback books. These covers are either padded or unpadded and there are a lot of different colors and styles that you can choose from.
A three-ring binder is another durable alternative for the menu binding. They typically have vinyl, leather or fabric finishes with a set of rings inside that hold the pages of the menu. You just put the pages in plastic clear sleeves and put them inside. Whenever there are pages that are damaged or outdated, all you have to do is take them out and replace them.
Just like the binder covers, spiral bound covers have flexibility with menu designs. These bindings also go inside of the covered exterior. The difference is that you cannot replace individual pages; the whole menu is spiral bound. Whenever the menu gets updated, all you have to do is take the old one out and put the new one in.
Also, there are those menu covers that have clear vinyl or plastic pages bound together by leatherette or fabric. With these, the page edges are stitched together with your choice of material for binding. The menus can have two page views or as many as twelve page views. Yes, these particular bindings are not as expensive as others, but, at the same time, they are not as durable either.
After you have looked into the types of menu binding that are available to you, you can decide which one is the best one for the needs of your restaurant. Taking the time to compare the cost, durability and functionality of each binding method will ensure that you are choosing the right one.
With that decision out of the way, you can then get back to all the other important things that need your attention so that your restaurant will be ready to open in no time at all. Now, deciding on the type of menu binding for your restaurant doesn’t have to take a long time when you have all the necessary information, does it?.
